Nine young ladies took the stage at Laurens Middle School on Saturday night with the hopes of being crowned either Miss Laurens County or Miss Laurens County Teen. According to www.goclinton.com, Deja Frederick won the crown of Miss Laurens County and Leah Lawson was crowned Miss Laurens County Teen. The Miss Laurens County contestants competed in five phases of competition, including an interview, on-stage question, swimsuit, talent and evening wear segments. The Teen contestants competed in the same events except for swimsuit, which was replaced with a physical fitness section. Frederick and Lawson will go on to represent Laurens County in the Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen Pageants this summer.
The main corridor leading into Mauldin from Laurens Road in Greenville may soon be getting an upgrade. According to reports, the City of Mauldin wants to tear out chunks of asphalt and create beds filled with daylilies, daffodils and street trees to welcome drivers navigating the five-lane avenue into the heart of town. City Council members caught their first glance of plans for the corridor that detail where trees, shrubs and flowers could be planted and where the city may slice new plant-filled medians into the road at key locations. Council is scheduled to discuss the plans further on February 15th.
