Last night’s storms took out power to much of the city of Clinton around 11 last night. There were reports of downed lines in areas including North Broad, along with a transformer fire on Elizabeth Street. Power was off in some areas for two hours.

A survey is being conducted by the Atlanta firm ‘Continuous Dialogue’ for the Laurens County Development Corporation.  The results of that survey will be discussed in a brainstorming meeting scheduled for June 27th.
It’s all part of developing a new strategic plan for the LCDC.  And why do they need a new plan?
According to LCDC Executive Director Marvin Moss, the last strategic plan was completed in April of 2009 and the objectives outlined in that plan have mostly been met.  This new planning process will help the LCDC decide if they need to continue on the same track they’re on now or shift their focus in a new direction.
The survey will be conducted primarily by telephone and email and should begin in just over one week from now.

Laurens City Police were looking for a local man this morning, following a high-speed police chase around 1 am. The white Cadillac was reprotedly doing 100 miles-per-hour when the pursuing officer called off his chase, and was clocked at 129-miles-per-hour shortly thereafter on East Main by another officer.
The man fled after the car slid onto the Main Street Bridge over the Little River, after running off the road in a curve and striking a concrete divider in a restaurant parking lot, taking out one wheel and related suspension and axle.
