For the second straight month, the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce sold out of its Laurens County “Bucks” on the first day of the month.  However, according to www.goclinton.com, September set a new record as all of the bucks were gone within ten minutes of the three locations that offer them opening.  Chamber President and CEO Greg Alexander said the Palmetto Bank Main Branch in Laurens and the Chamber office sold out their allotment within five minutes while the Clinton Federal Credit Union’s supply was gone in ten minutes.  $10,000 bucks are up for sale every month as part of the 2010 “Shop Laurens County First” campaign.  Consumers can purchase up to $200 worth of bucks at one time at a 20% discount.

Hurricane Earl is inching closer to the North Carolina coast today as a Category Four storm, however forecasters are seeing the hurricane starting to take a more Northly turn.  Even with a close approach to the Outer Banks, winds in excess of 74mph are expected on-shore as Earl has such a large wind field with hurricane force winds extending ninety miles from the center of the storm.
