  The Laurens County Health Care System Board this week approved an audit of system finances for years ending September 30th 2010 and 2011.
  The audit states that assets of the Laurens County Health Care System exceeded it’s liabilities at September 30, 2011 by approximately $30,273,000 of Net Assets. This amount may be used to meet the system’s ongoing financial obligations and to finance capitol improvement and expansion of services.
  The audit reported a loss of almost $5,000,000 – with total net assets decreasing by approximately $4,947,000 in 2011, due to lower net revenue and increased operating costs.
  Gross Patient Service Revenue was affected by medical staff turnover as the System experienced a several months gap in General Surgery and obstetrics/gynecological services. These services were subsequently replaced with employed physician relationships. The audit stated that growing competition for a limited number of medical professionals, particularly in view of the developments on a national level, have compounded the urgency for successful physician recruitment and retention. Most recently, these recruitment efforts involve investment in physician employment opportunities.
